Welcome to Get Some Treats. I have been making dog treats and cooking for my own 3 dogs for several years. I usually give my friends and neighbors the fruits of my cooking treats so my dogs won't get too big. So we have lots of friends with well fed dogs! I worked for a pet bakery for a short time and got many compliments on my own cookies rather than the ones that the bakery "made". I found the bakery actually ordered out many of their cookies and some had a shelf life of 6 months! I know I wouldn't want to feed my pet something that was supposed to last 6 months with no refrigeration. So I struck out on my own for the sake of all the dogs and people in the world who really care what their dogs eat.

Sure, some of those cookies look really great, but what is in them? Is it healthy for your pet at all? A beautiful petit four sure looks great, but is there any nutritional value in it? Probably not. I could make things like that, but I feel that if you are giving your pet a treat, it might as well be somewhat nutricious!

All of my treats are made in my kitchen by me with natural wholesome ingredients that I would use for my own family. Sometimes they have to ask if it is for them or for dogs! Sometimes I don't answer and they can't tell. I have had customers at shows and other events come up and grab a cookie and take a bite, then they look at me and say, um, is this for dogs or people?

I use ingredients like organice flour, regular and whole wheat, oats, honey, aluminum free baking powder, garlic both powder and fresh, parsley, sweet potatoes, organic berries in the muffins and gluten free cookies. Lots to list, plus I am always trying new recipes out.

I have soft treats or hard treats like the biscottis, pumpkin, liver and peanut butter that are great for cleaning teeth. I also make these in bite size for smaller dogs or to carry as training or reward treats.

I don't use preservatives in my treats, although I do add vitamins c and e for a little longer lasting treat. I recommend treats be stored in the fridge and/or in airtight containers. The liver balls do well frozen and the dogs love them that way. They are also fun to roll around to them or throw them for exercise!

Remember treats are a special thing and should not take up too large of a portion of the dogs diet. If you feed them dry or canned food, reduce how much then are getting to make up for the treats. And they will probably enjoy and extra walk or run as well.

If you suspect your dog has allergies, is itchy, smells funny, has an easily upset stomach, etc, please check with your vet. We can make special treats for your pet to avoid any allergens or sensitive tummy items. I regularly make gluten free cookies using human guidelines for glutens. I never use corn or soy in any of my products. I check frequently for the no no list of things dogs should have like raisins, hazelnuts, chocolate etc. to make sure we are current with our choices of ingredients so your pet is safe.
